There’s no bigger Tarvaris Jackson supporter than Vikings coach Brad Childress. As Jackson begins his third year, he’s ensured that there has been no competition for Jackson’s job, and he’s continually talked about Jackson’s steady progress.
But at the same time, there are no bigger Jackson detractors than Vikings fans. With the Vikings winning 15-7, and Jackson outperforming Peyton Manning (at least according to quarterback rating), Vikings’ fans mercilessly booed when Jackson airmailed a pair of passes on an early fourth-quarter drive.
You actually can’t fault the fans too much. Childress and Jackson’s offense is about as conservative as an NFL offense can be (Jackson has thrown for more than 200 yards four times in his first 15 NFL starts). And on the series after the booing, the Vikings called six straight running plays, missed a long field and watched the Colts tie the game up.
But as you hear the Vikings’ fans let him have it after any bad incompletion, it’s fair to wonder if Jackson will really ever win over Vikings fans. And it’s fair to wonder if Vince Young’s mom thinks that Titans fans are harsh, what would she think of Vikings’ fans.
