If you’re a Vikings fan, you know that it’s not going to end well, but that doesn’t do anything to detract from the NFL Films’ America’s Game: Missing Rings being one of the better hours of TV you’ll watch.
Gary Anderson still misses his first field goal of the season when he could have ensured Minnesota was headed to the Super Bowl. John Randle is still hurt when the Falcons put together their game-winning drive, and the loss to the Falcons does play a big part in the show, but you also get to see plenty of reminders of why the 1998 Vikings have to rank as one of the greatest teams to not make it to the Super Bowl.
As NFL Films has done with every America’s Game, three Vikings are picked to talk about the season. Chris Carter, Randle and Denny Green are a pretty good trio to pick, although it would have been great to hear Randy Moss’ thoughts on his amazing rookie year.
Even though he’s not interviewed, Moss is the biggest star of the show, but even in just an hour, NFL Films manages to hit on most of the key highlights from the season, including the change from Brad Johnson and Randall Cunningham, the offense’s knack for helping out an adequate-at-best defense and what drives Green.
If you’re a VIkings fan with a strong stomach, it’s well worth taking a look at. The show will reair Friday at 2 p.m. CT and Saturday at 10 a.m. CT on the NFL Network.
