--QB Sage Rosenfels was unable to pry his longtime number (18) away from wide receiver Sidney Rice and thus is going with No. 2. Rosenfels was acquired from the Houston Texans for a fourth-round pick in late February.
--WR Marcus Fitzgerald, the brother of Arizona Cardinals star receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., was invited to the Vikings' three-day rookie minicamp this weekend. Marcus Fitzgerald played college football at Marshall and was eligible for the draft in 2008. However, he was injured on his Pro Day and did not play last season.
--OT Phil Loadholt, the Vikings' second-round pick, has a very good chance to win the starting job at right tackle. The 6-8, 343-pound Loadholt will create quite the bookend with left tackle Bryant McKinnie, who is 6-8, 335 pounds. "It's very rare that you have a guy with almost 37-inch arms," Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said. "I think he's (got) 36-and-a-half-inch arms, which is extremely tough to get around. He doesn't have probably the same foot quickness that Bryant McKinnie has but has the same size and he's a very good run blocker."
--Spielman downplayed a report that the Vikings had a real interest in taking Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman in the first round. Freeman went 17th overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"That's just, again, everybody's writing things," Spielman said. "Like I said, we were excited to get Percy Harvin at 22."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I just think that there is certainly no downside to adding playmakers, explosive playmakers, people that if you make a mistake they have that top-end speed to be able to get the ball in the end zone. He
understands, and we understand, that he is just a piece of the puzzle. He is coming to a good football team and he wants to be a good teammate just like an Adrian Peterson. Typically you end up gaining respect from your teammates when you show that you have ability to help make the team better." -- Vikings coach Brad Childress on the addition of Percy Harvin.
