Minnesota Vikings Notes, Quotes 2009-02-07
--RG Anthony Herrera underwent surgery on his shoulder last week. Herrera was at the Vikings' facility rehabbing a day after the procedure.

--RT Artis Hicks was scheduled to undergo surgery to have a triceps tendon fixed. Hicks suffered the injury in the regular-season opener at Green Bay and aggravated it late in a November victory at Jacksonville when he took over for Ryan Cook as the starting right tackle.

--RB Adrian Peterson, DT Kevin Williams and K Ryan Longwell were voted the Vikings' MVPs on offense, defense and special teams by teammates and coaches.

--RB Adrian Peterson led the NFL in rushing, but he was often replaced in third-down situations by Chester Taylor because Taylor is superior in pass receiving. Asked if he would like to see Peterson get to the point where he can remain in on third down more consistently, Childress said: "Perfect world-wise, you would love to have an every down back. It's not to say that he wasn't used on third downs because he was. I also think you have to use the talents of the guys that you have. We try to do that to the extent that we can. Chester provided some spark to us on third-down opportunities."

--The Vikings will have the 22nd selection in the first round of the NFL draft this April. Minnesota was set to draft 23rd, but because Arizona and Philadelphia advanced to the NFC title game, the Vikings bumped up one spot. The winner of the championship game will draft either 31st or 32nd depending on how it does in the Super Bowl.

--The Vikings won't start their offseason program until April 6 rather than in March, the earliest teams are allowed to begin. Coach Brad Childress decided to give his players a bit more time off. "I think it is important to give these guys time away from the game," he said.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Somebody else does that for me. I'm sitting in front of a bunch of people that will no doubt (evaluate me). I'll have a chance to sit down with the owners, but there's been a pretty good dialogue all the way through with those guys. We always sit down and have a year-end meeting here." -- Vikings coach Brad Childress on how he would evaluate his progression as a head coach three years into his tenure.
