Minnesota Vikings Notes, Quotes 2009-02-20
--The Vikings hired Diron Reynolds to replace Brendan Daly as their assistant defensive line coach. Daly left the Vikings after three seasons to become the defensive line coach for the St. Louis Rams. Reynolds spent the 2007 season as the line coach for the Miami Dolphins but was fired after that season as the team made wholesale changes in its coaching staff. Reynolds, who is the older brother of former Packers defensive end Jamal Reynolds, had been the defensive quality control coach with the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to '06. During that time, Reynolds spent two seasons working with Leslie Frazier. Frazier is now the Vikings defensive coordinator.

--Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said at the Pro Bowl that he wants to add 7 to 12 pounds to his 6-1, 218-pound frame this offseason in order to get stronger. Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman made it clear that this was not something the Vikings suggested but also did not express displeasure with Peterson's plan.

"Adrian's trying to be the best football player he can be, and I know there's a lot of still untapped potential in how much better he can get. I know that the coaches and Tom Kanavy, our strength coach, and Brad (Childress), they will all monitor that to see if that's affecting him or not. But Adrian works extremely hard at his craft to be the best he can be. That's something that will be discussed internally. But I know that you don't have to ever worry about Adrian being ready to go on Sunday and being in the best shape possible."

--Asked about incarcerated quarterback Michael Vick, who is being shopped by the Falcons, Spielman said: "I just would say that we're very strong on our character and what type of people (we bring in). You guys know how we've been about the type of players that we've brought in." That is about as close as Spielman is going to get to saying no.

--The Vikings plan to continue bringing in all their draft prospects on the same day this spring. The team does not have players visit individually.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "There are guys that I know right now, they can come in in a tuxedo and serve wine and cheese and I don't know they would get back on our board." -- Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman on what it takes for a player who has been taken off the team's draft board to get back on by impressing the team with his combine interview.
